Looking to Hubbard Mine for next MOTA
Been thinking about the next mine I would like to activate and I would really like to do the Hubbard Mine. It is my favorite in this area but it is also one of the hardest to get to. It is about a mile hike from where you could park a truck and maybe 3/4 of a mile from where I could park my ATV. The hike is not that far but the terrain is tough. If you have ever been to a location where they have done some reclamation, you will know it is pot marked with big holes to prevent runoff, promote water retention and vegetation growth. Then there is a boulder slide you have to get across before a final hike of tall weeds and rough ground. So packing the gear back there is going to be rough. I think I have all the right equipment now so I am going to do the activation on Friday, November 5th, 2016.
I love this location because the mine has had some preservation work done to keep the history and feeling of the location in tact. It also has stunning views! The mine is on Federal Land and if the weather holds, I hope to be on site and taking photos and video by 11am.
I know there are many Ham Operators out there near abandoned, operational and historical mines. Join in the fun. When you get ready to do an activation, post on Twitter and @MinesOnTheAir. I will retweet your post and hopefully we can get some people looking for you.
