1908 Copper Mine – Found

If you recall from previous posts, we made an attempt to find this mine but most of the two track had long washed away.  We scheduled a number of attempts but work always got in the way.  Well, a few weeks back, we decided to try and come in from behind and above.

Turns out, the mines were above the buildings we were shooting for and we stumbled on them.  I did not take my radio as I knew it would take the day just to try and find it.  It gets cold early now so we couldn’t just hang out. Maybe next year I can activate.  It is a long hard ATV ride to get there.

I am close to having my go box set up just need my battery. I visit a lot of the hard rock mines around Ouray, Silverton, Telluride, Ophir and Lake City and I will definitely try working some. Thank you for the work and the idea of MOTA I am excited.

      Hi Randy:

Glad to hear you want to get involved. Don’t hesitate to drop me an email, when you do an activation, with some pictures and I will post them on the site.

Still working on some kind of database to track this stuff. It’s no small task and I don’t have a lot of time. I need to retire but that is no anytime soon. lol
